NOW Foods’ CoQ10 Antioxidant Serum Reviews

This serum was produced by Now Foods as a concentrated product designed to be applied to the problem areas of the face – those particularly incline to fine lines and wrinkles. Now Foods has created a line of skin care products that utilize the antioxidant properties of CoQ10 to increase elasticity in the skin. This serum is meant to be used after the cleanser and toner, and before the moisturizer is applied.

The only active ingredient in this serum is the CoQ10, which means that the rest of the ingredients in this product are most likely useless. In order to determine the effectiveness of this product, we need to look at ingredient and see if it will deliver all these results on its own.

Product Details:

De-ionized Water, Aloe Vera (Aloe barbadensis) Leaf Gel*, Vegetable Glycerine, Xanthan Gum, Soy Lecithin, CoQ10 (Co-enzyme Q10, natural all-trans form), Wheat Germ Oil, GABA, Avocado Oil, Benzyl Alcohol, Phenoxyethanol, Sweet Almond Oil, Sodium Hyaluronate (Hyaluronic Acid), L-Carnosine, Cedar Bark Extract and Green Tea Extract. *Certified Organic

How It Works

CoQ10 is an enzyme that the body naturally produces. During childhood, very little is produced, and production peaks at age 20-30. After that, there is a steady decline. It has been proven to decrease wrinkles when used over a long period of time. However, many of those who claim that it is effective also acknowledge that it is unknown how much of the enzyme is needed to be effective. This serum only contains 1% CoQ10, which does not seem like much, but it is unclear whether or not it will actually decrease wrinkles and improve elasticity in the skin.

Our Take

We hesitate to recommend this product, simply because although the enzyme has been proven, the dosage has not. However, it is inexpensive, costing as little as $12 for 1 fluid ounce. If you are considering it, it’s not much of a risk to try.
